Kassia, a former student of Boethius, seeks refuge in Constantinople after Boethius' execution by Theodoric the Great. Her dream of composing music is silenced by an empire which clings fiercely to its own melodies, rejecting any harmonies beyond its walls. She weds Kosmas in hope for a bright future, yet, destiny's cruel hand spins her world, barricading her within the confines of the house, trapping her in the chains of sexual slavery. After escaping her loveless cage, she meets Nikephoros, a silk trader, who hides his passion of music from his family, and in his studio, he creates symphonies that weave delicate harmonies.
As Kassia and Nikephoros walk the maze of destiny, their hearts seek freedom. They desperately need a savior to liberate their chained souls.
